How can media literacy help us raise awareness, organize for change, and take restorative action? The Santa Clara County Office of Education’s grant-funded media literacy project explored this question while designing a media literacy and online critical thinking high school curriculum. This free curriculum includes a student-paced online course and a teacher-facilitated blended learning unit, both of which have been piloted by hundreds of high school students across three California counties. Session attendees will explore and experience the curriculum by engaging in interactive online activities, participating in discussions, and connecting to real stories. Educators will leave the session with full access to the curriculum, including strategies, resources, and examples to empower students to become critical media consumers and agents of social change.
