Genrefying the Nonfiction Collection to Support Teachers and Attract Readers
Wednesday August 28, 2024 10:10am - 11:05am PDT
How do you quickly pivot from supporting your 6th grade Science teacher's class in their research on Human Impact on Climate Change to helping a 7th grade Social Studies teacher reach her curricular goals for Medieval Japan? By genrefying your nonfiction collection! But, you say, Melvyl Dewey created a classification system 150 years ago that works for all. Or does it? If you are finding that Dewey falls short in organizing your school library's nonfiction collection, by all means change it. Additionally, if you find that students seldom gravitate toward the nonfiction collection for pleasure reading you may want to consider genrefying it. Michael Ambrose would like to share ideas on how to do this.
